Marc Francis Ramsay, Managing Partner

Marc is called to the Bar in Barbados, Jamaica, and Belize and is a Professionally Accredited Corporate Secretary and Professionally Accredited Director (GovStrat). He has a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of the West Indies, and has read the private and public international law courses at the Hague Academy of Law at the International Court of Justice, The Hague, Netherlands.

Marc’s practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, financing, international trade, employment law, and human rights to range of start ups and blue chip clients in Jamaica and internationally. He served as a Consultant to the Caribbean Council in London, UK, and prior to founding Marc Francis Ramsay & Company (the predecessor firm to Ramsay & Partners) served as Crown Counsel - International Legal Affairs in the Government of Belize, where his practice included public international law, commercial law, and international trade and negotiations. His international law litigation experience includes instructing in the landmark Shanique Myrie v Barbados case before the Caribbean Court of Justice (Original Jurisdiction). Marc also served as a consultant to the Directorate General of Trade in Belize, drafting the country's new Geographical Indications Bill, the first of its kind in the region.

Marc has served on several company and government boards, including serving as Chairman of Aeronautical Telecommunications Limited and as a Board Member of the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority and Teacher Service Commission since 2016.  He has also served as Chairman of the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Library Service Advocacy Committee. He currently serves as a Director and Chairman of the Compensation Committee of Tropical Battery Company Limited, which is traded on the Jamaica Stock Exchange. He previously served as Director of two other publicly traded companies, Key Insurance Company Limited and SSL Venture Capital Jamaica Limited.

Committed to service, Marc has been coach of the award winning Norman Manley Law School Jessup Mooting team for several years and previously lectured at the Faculty of Law, University of the West Indies in public international law, advanced legal writing, and governance.

SAMANTHA MOORE, PARTNER

Practice areas: DATA PROTECTION, CORPORATE AND COMMERCIAL LAW

Samantha Moore was called to the Jamaican Bar in December 2012. Since being admitted to practice, she worked for eight (8) years at one of the largest law firms in the Caribbean. There she handled a variety of commercial and real estate transactions on behalf of both local and international clients.

Samantha joined the partnership at Ramsay & Partners (formerly RamsaySmith) in December 2020. Her core practice areas include Data Protection and Privacy Rights, Cybersecurity, Electronic Transactions, Banking and Financial Regulatory Advice, Securities, Real Estate and Conveyancing, Mergers & Acquisitions, Intellectual Property, Public Procurement, Work Permit and Immigration Law, Product Registration and Consumer Protection, Charities Law, Distributorship Agreements and Anti-Competition and Anti-Trust Law.

Samantha holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and International Relations with Upper Second Class Honours and a Bachelor of Laws with First Class Honours, both from the University of the West Indies. In 2010, Samantha began her studies at the Norman Manley Law School where she earned a place on the Principal's Honour Roll as well as a Legal Education Certificate of Merit. Samantha also received multiple prizes for her outstanding academic achievements at the Noman Manley Law School which include the Raphael Codlin Prize to the Most Outstanding Student over Two Years, The Ziplaw Technologies Ltd. Prize to the Most Outstanding Student over Two Years as well as The Chairman’s Prize for best performance in Law of Evidence and Forensic Medicine, Remedies, Civil Procedure and Practice 1 and 2.

Samantha is a member of the Commercial Law and the Telecommunications, Broadcasting & Technology Sub-Committees of the Jamaican Bar Association. She enjoys travelling in her spare time.

KALIMA BOBB-SEMPLE, PARTNER

Practice areas: INSURANCE, CIVIL LITIGATION, PERSONAL INJURY, CORPORATE

Kalima Bobb-Semple was called to the Jamaican Bar in 2012 and has specialised practice experience in Insurance Law, Civil Litigation, Personal Injury, Conveyancing and Corporate Law.

Prior to joining Ramsay & Partners, she served as Senior Legal Counsel at British Caribbean Insurance Company (BCIC), one of the larger general insurance companies in Jamaica. There she headed the litigation portfolio, negotiated claims, handled insurance bonds, and provided legal and administrative support to the Company. Kalima previously practiced Family Law, Property Law, Estate Law and Civil Litigation at a highly reputable medium sized firm.

Kalima has served as an Arbitrator on the panel of the Insurance Association of Jamaica since 2015 and is a Member of the Jamaica Bar Association.

She was awarded the Jack Dear QC Prize in Company Law in 2010, and the Patterson Cheltenham QC Bursary in 2008 while reading the Bachelor of Laws at the University of the West Indies and previously obtained a BSc in Tourism Management from The University of the West Indies and until 2007 was employed in the tourism and hospitality industry.

SHELDON ROBINSON, PARTNER

Sheldon Robinson is a Partner in the firm's Dispute Resolution Practice and has been an integral contributor to its growth and development since he joined the team in 2017.  He is a graduate with honours from the University of the West Indies and the Norman Manley Law School and was admitted to practice in 2016. 

Sheldon's core practice centres on conflict resolution in civil and commercial litigation. He has represented local and international individuals and companies in numerous high-stakes complex matters at all tiers of the Jamaican court system. His focused, collaborative and pragmatic approach to dispute-resolution has consistently saved time and expense in tense litigious proceedings, earning the trust of his clients. Keen on meeting the needs of the firm's varied clientele,  Sheldon devotes himself to a diverse portfolio of practice areas.

He is Chairman of the firm's Client Care Committee, a member of the Jamaican Bar Association and the Lawyers' Christian Fellowship. Passionate about outreach, Sheldon conceptualized and spearheads the firm's annual 'pop up' legal-aid clinic, which partners with local churches to offer free legal services.

His extra curriculars include mentorship, physical fitness and creative writing. Sheldon is an award-winning JCDC poet and also writes scripts for local Christian radio programmes.

Chantelle Biersay LLM

Associate Attorney

Chantelle Biersay is an Associate Attorney in the firm's Transactional Practice. Her practice areas include corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, real estate law and development, estate planning and administration of estates.

Chantelle’s experience in the corporate arena has allowed her to represent both borrowers and lenders in complex and high value financial transactions involving debt and equity finance, acquisition finance, secured finance, project finance, senior secured loans and capital market transactions. She has been able to help clients pursue such transactions on terms that serve immediate and long-term objectives while extracting maximum value.

As the strategic and transactional counsel in real estate transactions, Chantelle has also represented real estate developers, individual entrepreneurs and private entities in structuring deals, leasing, acquiring and developing commercial and residential properties. She has handled high value real estate projects including hotels, shopping centers, office buildings and multi-family and major housing residential developments.

Chantelle has also assisted senior counsel and has been lead counsel in successful litigation matters and settlements concerning real estate law, administration of estates and debt recovery in the Supreme Court of Jamaica.
 
Academically, Chantelle is the holder of a Master of Laws in Corporate and Commercial Law and Bachelor of Laws with First Class Honours from the Faculty of Law, UWI Mona, where she served as a Research Assistant.  Chantelle is also a graduate of the Norman Manley Law School, where she successfully completed her legal education by obtaining her Legal Education Certificate. 

Talented in dancing, Chantelle is a trained Classical Ballerina and Indian Dancer. Her journey in the preservation of East Indian Culture in Jamaica has allowed her to receive a myriad of cultural awards and accolades – with the most prestigious being the Prime Minister’s National Youth Award for Excellence in Arts and Culture in 2012.
